My Freshman Year (67-89)
This chapter was not my favorite chapter. The foreign students were very harsh on the American students. I did not agree with their remarks about Americans especially the friendship remarks. I thought they were generalizing all Americans and they were not familiar enough with our culture to make the remarks they were making. If I was in their position I am sure I would be the same way but also I have to understand that I do not know their culture and that the cultures may be very different. At Bloom I can understand this happens but at the same time it doesn't happen to all of the foreign students. They also perceived Americans as dumb and again they were generalizing because not all Americans are as dumb as the foreign exchange students made them out to be.
Ethnography
This chapter is mostly about the questions that ethnographers ask when they are conducting their research. This really helped me with my own CLUE project and the questions I can ask for the interviews. I think being concise is the most important part of this chapter because if you are not precise on your questions and objective of your questions than you will not be able to conduct good research. This was very helpful to better my questions for the interviews I conducted.
